CIES Staff Lead discussions at 2015 World Congress on Advances in Structural Engineering and Mechanics (ASEM15)
Professor Stephen Foster (Head of School) and Professor Brian Uy (Director of CIES) each delivered keynote lectures at ASEM15 held between 25-29 August, Incheon, Korea, (http://asem.cti3.com/asem15.htm). The Congress included more than 350 papers presented by participants from over 30 countries during the 3-day conference. A total of eight CIES members were in attendance.
Professor Foster’s keynote lecture was titled “Insight from numerical simulation into the causes and risks of fire induced spalling in concrete walls, floors and tunnel lining” and formed part of the conference on “Computational Technologies in Concrete Structures” which is affiliated with the Techno Press journal Computers and Concrete, An International Journal, of which Professor Foster is Chief Editor (America-Australia).

Professor Uy’s keynote lecture was titled “Behaviour and design of connections and elements for demountable and rehabilitated steel and composite structures” and formed part of the conference on “Steel and Composite Structures” which is affiliated with the Techno Press journal Steel and Composite Structures, An International Journal, of which Professor Uy is Chief Editor (Asia-Pacific).
In addition, Dr Vipulkumar Patel and Dr Farhad Aslani from CIES also co-chaired a mini-symposium on “Steel and Composite Structures in Australia”, which included contributions from Dr Tai Thai and CIES PhD students, Mr Dongxu Li and Ms Rumman Waqas as well as Dr Tian-Yi Song from Western Sydney University.
